Acoustic Alchemy — современная инструментальная джазовая группа. Создана в Англии в 1981 году двумя гитаристами с классическим музыкальным образованием: Ником Уэббом (англ. Nick Webb), игравшим на гитаре с металлическими струнами, и Саймоном Джеймсом (англ. Simon James), игравшим на нейлоновых струнах. После ухода Джеймса Уэбб объединился с гитаристом Грегом Кармайклом (англ. Greg Carmichael) — именно этот дуэт составил ядро Acoustic Alchemy на следующие годы. С 1998 года место Ника Уэбба занимает Майлз Джилдердейл (англ. Miles Gilderdale). Acoustic Alchemy до реорганизации в 2000 году не имела постоянного состава, единственной неизменной частью группы, её ядром всегда был лишь дуэт Ника Уэбба (гитара с металлическими струнами) и Грега Кармайкла (гитара с нейлоновыми струнами). Они являлись авторами и аранжировщиками всех композиций группы. Остальные музыканты — электрогитаристы, басисты, ударники, клавишники, перкуссионисты — фактически являлись сессионными и привлекались лишь для записи альбомов. Однако наиболее часто с группой сотрудничали Джон Парсонс (электрогитара, также иногда исполнял партии акустической гитары); барабанщики Берт Смаак (5 классических альбомов), Дэн Томлинсон (англ. Dan Tomlinson) и Джон Шеппард (англ. John Sheppard) (оба по 2 альбома); клавишники Райнер Брюнингхаус (англ. Rainer Bruninghaus) (5 классических альбомов) и Терри Дислей (англ. Terry Disley) (4 альбома). Басисты менялись часто, два последних альбома до 1998 года с группой записал Деннис Мёрфи (англ. Dennis Murphy). Бессменным перкуссионистом, начиная с первого альбома, был Марио Аргандона. После смерти Ника Уэбба его место в дуэте занял Майлз Джирделдейл, который на альбомах начиная с The Beautiful Game (2000) стал также исполнять партии электрогитары. Кроме того, после возобновления деятельности группы она обрела более-менее постоянный состав музыкантов: Грег Кармайкл (гитара с нейлоновыми струнами), Майлз Джирделдейл (гитара с металлическими струнами и электрогитара), Энтони Уайт (клавишные) и Фрэнк Феликс (бас). Этот состав записал 5 альбомов (2000—2005). Место барабанщика до 2003 года оставалось по-прежнему за сессионными музыкантами, которые сменялись от альбома к альбому, однако начиная с альбома Radio Contact за ударной установкой находится Грег Грейнджер (англ. Greg Grainger (правда, периодически в качестве сессионного привлекается ещё и Берт Смаак). После ухода в 2007 году начавшего сольную карьеру Фрэнка Феликса его место на басу занял Джулиан Крэмптон (англ. Julian Crampton). В таком составе Acoustic Alchemy и существует по сей день.

Continuing on from the radical changes enforced by The Beautiful Game, AArt follows precedent with another varied mix of styles and genres, and even calls upon saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa, formerly of The Rippingtons, to share the lead on one track, "AArt Attack".

American/English is Acoustic Alchemy's fourth album release on the Higher Octave Music label, and contains eleven tracks, making it also their shortest album with the label to date. The album was preceded by single "Say Yeah" for smooth jazz radio in the USA, an offering in a hip-hop style, remarked by some to be similar in style to British urban singer-songwriter Craig David. Experimental attributes include digital processing on Carmichael's guitar, which 'cut off' the ends of each note, and scat style vocals from Gilderdale toward the end of the track. Other highlights include "The Detroit Shuffle", reminiscent of 1989's "Catalina Kiss" from the "Blue Chip" album. The track fused a vibrant melody with the shuffle rhythm which helped seal the band's popularity in the genre towards the end of the 1980s.

Arcanum (spelled a͡rcānˈum on the cover) was a 1996 album released by Acoustic Alchemy, their penultimate release on the GRP jazz label. The production on this album differed from normal; the band recorded the disc live at Pinewood Film Studios, London, UK. They enlisted the help of the London Metropolitan Orchestra to provide backing. The album contained twelve tracks, three of which were new ("Columbia", "Chance Meeting" and "Something She Said"), and the others re-recordings of tracks selected from the band's discography to this point.

Back On The Case is the fifth studio album by Acoustic Alchemy released in 1991. The first four tracks from this album all appear on the band's 2002 compilation album, "The Very Best Of Acoustic Alchemy". It is also the second album by the band to feature pianist Terry Disley.

Blue Chip is the third album by Acoustic Alchemy, released under the MCA Master Series label in 1989, and again under GRP in 1996. The album presented an experiment with pop music in the band's signature style, using strong, memorable melody lines. The most successful track here is "Catalina Kiss", the album opener and a longstanding live favourite. Using a shuffle rhythm, the track calls upon the saxophone for embellishments, whilst tonal harmonies between the two guitars evoke a strong melody. JazzTrax presenter Art Good suggested that the track was inspired by an appearance by the band at the 1988 Catalina Island Jazz Festival.

Early Alchemy was a compilation album produced by Nick Webb of Acoustic Alchemy and the sixth album overall released on March 16, 1992. The album was put together from old recordings and outtakes by Webb and Simon James, to give insight into the progression of the band's music. The album contains the original recordings of "Sarah Victoria" and "Casino", successful Acoustic Alchemy songs co-written by James. The instrumental make-up of the band differs here too, with a double bass, percussionist and string quartet (The Violettes) backing up the sound of the dual acoustic guitars.

Natural Elements was the second major label release by Acoustic Alchemy from 1988. The shortest of all of the band's albums, only comprising eight tracks, Natural Elements set out to show what the title suggests: the organic side to Acoustic Alchemy's music. Points to note from this album include the title track, Natural Elements, which became the theme tune to long-running BBC gardening show, Gardener's World, and the re-recording of an early track, "Casino", now re-arranged to include piano and full percussion parts.

Positive Thinking... is the tenth and final album recorded by Acoustic Alchemy for GRP in 1998. It marks a milestone in the band's history not only for the change of record company, but for the loss of founding member Nick Webb, who died during the recording of this album. His name appears in the credits for having contributed to every song, however Webb's parts in the recordings were done by longstanding sideman John Parsons.
